Today I spent nearly a whole day re..restoring a moulding for an XA GT Coupe. Unfortunately they are rare as.. so if one comes up for sale saying it was already restored..you have to take it..
However.. there is the possibility of more work fixing someone else's work, its is impossible to know how hard they have knocked up dents, and how much material had been filed off.. so as not to risk cutting through, to work on it , safest bet is all by hand...
First pictures are of the moulding bought.. as "fully restored" then I got to reshape it and identify all the dents in the trim to repair.
For a while I have wanted to design and CNC machine my own dent knocking tools.. so here, also, are some custom made tools. NO.. NOT FOR SALE..??
Anyway.. it certainly looks different now.. it was only sisal polished before, now it's mirror polished..
Thanks to all those new YouTube subscribers, followers of this group and customers sending in work..
Don`t try this at home !!!
Someone has used much to fine a tool, or centre punch to knock up any dents, you can almost guarantee that would of all been filed off, leaving the metal too thin.
Running a file across the top revealed all these dents and ripples.
My new custom made Alikat dent knocking tools. CNC Cut from 20mm Billet Aluminium. Made for each contour on each moulding.
NOT FOR SALE !
Repaired - Re-polished - REALLY NICE !
Remember this saying..
There is one price if I repair it,
that price is doubled, IF YOU repaired it..
